Wolfs star Austin Abrams to be swallowed whole in diving thriller Whalefall

March 7, 2025 by Matt Rodgers

Described as 127 Hours meets The Martian when it was announced back in 2023, high-concept belly-of-the-beast thriller Whalefall has found its fish-bait in the shape of Wolfs star Austin Abrams.

Per Deadline’s report the Euphoria breakout has landed the sought after role of a teenage diver who is searching for his dead father’s remains, when he is suddenly swallowed by a 60-ton sperm whale and finds himself with just one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out.

The 20th Century movie has been adapted from the Daniel Kraus novel of the same name, and will be directed by Brian Duffield, who was responsible for the critically Kaitlyn Dever alien invasion drama No One Will Save You.

Next up for Abrams is Barbarian director Zach Cregger’s eagerly anticipated follow-up feature Weapons, which is set for release on January 16, 2026.
