Glen Powell linked with Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot

March 22, 2025 by Matt Rodgers

Glen Powell broke out in the blockbuster legacy sequel Top Gun: Maverick, has already used his considerable movie-star charm to resurrect the Twister franchise, and is currently deep in production on Edgar Wright’s remake of The Running Man. Now the rights holders for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre are hoping to get him onboard for their latest reboot of the 50-year old slasher series.

According to Deadline, Verve, who have owned the rights to the Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel created series since 2017, are being bombarded with offers for the iconic IP.

Now this might seem strange considering we’ve had a Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel as recently as 2022, and that turned out to be a bit of a dud, so why would audiences be revving up for a return to sun-kissed Southern State?

The answer can be found in one of the key interested parties. Per the report, JT Mollner, who is coming off the back of his critically-acclaimed thriller Strange Darling, and producer Roy Lee, horror aficionado behind the likes of Companion, Barbarian, and Weapons, are circling the project, and should they be successful then Powell would be interested in reading the script.

1974’s seminal shocker The Texas Chain Saw Massacre spawned three sequels in 1986, 1990 and 1995 before the series was rebooted with the really-rather-good The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and its terrible follow-up The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006). Leatherface returned in 2013 with Texas Chainsaw 3D, a direct sequel to Hooper’s original, a prequel entitled Leatherface 2017, before the Fede Alvarez produced requel was dumped on Netflix in 2022.

Nothing is official, and it does sound as though the project is being buzzed around town like a crazed Leatherface killing-spree, but let us know what you think of this news by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
