Avatar animated film Aang: The Last Airbender adds Steven Yeun

March 29, 2025 by Ricky Church

The upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender animated film Aang: The Last Airbender has made a new addition to its voice cast with Steven Yeun joining the cast.

Aang: The Last Airbender picks up several years after the conclusion of the main Avatar series as Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph and Zuko as young adults decades prior to the sequel series The Legend of Korra.

Yeun’s character is being kept under wraps, but this will not be the actor’s first time in the Avatar franchise as he appeared in Korra as Wan, the very first Avatar. Yeun will star alongside Eric Nam as Aang, Dionne Quan as Toph, Jessica Matten as Katara, Román Zaragoza as Sokka and Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista as the villain.

Aang: The Last Airbender is directed by Lauren Montgomery and William Mata. Avatar creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will produce with Maryann Garger and Latifa Ouaou.

Aang: The Last Airbender isn’t the only upcoming piece of Avatar media. Paramount and Nickelodeon recently announced another animated series in development, Avatar: Seven Havens, taking place a century after Korra, in addition to a new line of novels Avatar Legends which will focus on the ‘unsung’ heroes’ throughout the franchise.

Aang: The Last Airbender will be released on January 30th, 2026.
