Dexter: Original Sin renewed for second season

April 1, 2025 by Ricky Church

Audiences will be getting more of young Dexter Morgan as Paramount and Showtime has renewed the prequel Dexter: Original Sin for a second season.

Taking place in 1991, Dexter: Original Sin focused on a fresh-out-of-college Dexter as he made his transition from student to serial killer. Joining the Miami Metro as an intern, Dexter joined his father Harry and future co-workers on his first murder cases while honing his skills as a killer.

The series did very well on Paramount+, becoming a popular hit with Dexter fans as original series showrunner Clyde Phillips helmed the prequel. The second season will begin pre-production soon as Phillips will assemble the writer’s room for Dexter’s next batch of victims.

While it may be a while before we see Dexter in his youth again, fans will get to see Michael C. Hall back in his iconic role later this year in Dexter: Resurrection, another continuation from the original series and its sequel miniseries Dexter: New Blood. Resurrection is currently filming in New York City and has put together a cast consisting of familiar and brand new faces to the franchise.

“Set in 1991, Miami, Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

The cast of Dexter: Original Sin includes Patrick Gibson as Dexter Morgan, Christian Slater as Harry Morgan, Patrick Dempsey as Aaron Spencer, Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Tanya Martin, Joe Pantoliano as Mad Dog, Brittany Allen as Laura Moser, Randy Gonzalez as Santos Jimenez, Aaron Jennings as Clark Sanders, Raquel Justice as Sofia, Jasper Lewis as Doris Morgan, Carlo Mendez as Hector Estrada, Isaac Gonzalez Rossi as Gio, Roberto Sanchez as Tony Ferrer and Amanda Brooks as Becca Spencer with Michael C. Hall returning to voice the inner voice of Dexter.

Dexter: Original Sin can be streamed on Paramount+.
