Pacific Rim TV series coming to Prime Video from Legendary and Amazon

April 21, 2025 by EJ Moreno

If you’ve been craving a new Pacific Rim, the franchise is returning, but this time to the small screen.

Variety reports that the new series is “now in development at Prime Video, as part of a deal between lead studio Legendary Television and Amazon MGM Studios.” It comes from Eric Heisserer, who will serve as writer and executive producer under his Chronology banner.

Heisserer is best known, most recently, as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the Shadow and Bone TV series on Netflix. He also nabbed an Academy Award nomination for best adapted screenplay for Arrival in 2017.

The Pacific Rim franchise had a strong start but saw a decline with its sequel. The first film, helmed by Guillermo del Toro, made $411 million worldwide, and the follow-up from Steven S. DeKnight only grossed $290 million worldwide.

In the films, we see Earth is under siege by Kaiju, giant monsters that emerge from an interdimensional portal called “The Breach” deep in the Pacific Ocean. To fight back, humanity builds Jaegers —colossal, humanoid mechs piloted by two people whose minds are linked via a neural bridge called the Drift. It’s basically giant robots vs. giant monsters and a wild blend of sci-fi, military drama, and anime-style storytelling.

There is no set release date for this new TV series, but stay tuned to Flickering Myth for more updates.
