Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia with Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons sets earlier release

May 2, 2025 by Ricky Church

Yorgos Lanthimos’ next film Bugonia, which stars Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, has seen its release date moved up one week earlier in an exclusive engagement at select theatres before its wider release.

Bugonia follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying the planet. The script is from Will Tracy (The Menu) and is based on the 2003 South Korean comedy Save the Green Planet!.

The film will be released at select New York and Los Angeles theatres on October 24th and then have its full release on October 31st. Focus Features has produced and will distribute the film.

Starring alongside Stone and Plemons are Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias and Alicia Silverstone. This will be the fourth time Stone has starred in one of Lanthimos’ films after The Favourite, Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness, the latter of which also featured Plemons.

Bugonia will be released exclusively on October 24th with a wide release on October 31st.
