Jake Schreier is fresh off Thunderbolts*, and while his New Avengers are still working themselves out as a team, the filmmaker is moving to another Marvel team.
The MCU has been searching for the right fit to officially introduce the X-Men, and now it’s reported that Schreier is the top pick. Per Deadline, their sources claim he’s in early talks to direct the studio’s new X-Men movie.
Little else is known about the project, but Michael Lesslie has penned the script. Lesslie is best known for writing The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and this year’s Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is producing.
X-Men have appeared in the MCU before, with Patrick Stewart having a cameo in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Kelsey Grammar appearing in the post-credits for The Marvels, and the billion-dollar entry Deadpool & Wolverine. We’ve also recently learned Stewart, Grammar, Ian McKellan, Channing Tatum, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Cumming will appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
Jake Schreier is coming off Thunderbolts*, receiving positive reviews and bringing in $177.3 million at the global box office at the time of writing. Marvel has yet to confirm his X-Men talks.
