Bandai Namco Entertainment’s epic fantasy game Elden Ring is heading to the big screen, with the publisher announcing that it is teaming with A24 and filmmaker Alex Garland (Civil War) for a live-action adaptation of the acclaimed video game.
Based on a mythology and story from Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin, who will serve among the film’s producers, the game is an open world action RPG set within the dark fantasy realm of the Lands Between and sees the player on a quest to repair the Elden Ring.
Released in 2022, Elden Ring was a critical and commercial smash hit, shifting over 30 million copies. A spinoff, Elden Ring Nightreign, it set for release on May 30th.
Garland will serve as both writer and director on the Elden Ring movie, which marks a reunion for the filmmaker with A24 – his home for Ex Machina, Men, Civil War and the recently-released Warfare (his only other directorial offering Annihilation was distributed by Paramount).
