Galactic Civilizations IV Version 3.0 Hyperlane Update out now

June 12, 2025 by Andrew Newton

The new v3.0 Hyperlane Update has arrived for Stardock Entertainment’s space strategy title, Galactic Civilizations IV. This latest update introduces major new features such as Hyperlanes, Fleet Supply and more. Watch the new trailer below to see more of what’s included in this update.

Version 3.0 rolls out a major refresh for the game, with improvements across nearly every aspect. The main new feature of the update is the arrival of Hyperlanes. These new means of movement provide direct lines between distant stars, making it possible for players to travel very quickly between disconnected sections of a sector.

The map generation system has been completely reworked, offering more variety and customisation when setting up a new game. A new fleet supply system has been introduced as well, giving civilisations a supply cap that expands through research and planetary upgrades. This change makes different ship designs feel more distinct and strategic.

AI behaviour has also received a big boost. Not only is the AI smarter across all difficulty levels, but on higher settings it can now adapt dynamically if it’s losing, keeping the challenge alive even when you’re ahead. The user interface has seen dozens of updates, both big and small, to streamline gameplay and make interacting with systems more intuitive.

Under the hood, the game’s engine has been optimised to support bigger maps and more stars, with performance improvements that should be especially noticeable on lower-end machines. Visuals haven’t been left behind either as starships now look cleaner and more cohesive, thanks to improved anti-aliasing that smooths out ship components.

And for those who love the community banter, Stardock took the time to dive into feedback from across the internet including forums, Reddit, Steam and more to implement much-requested balance changes. The Steam Workshop experience has also been overhauled, making it easier than ever to design, share, and showcase custom ships, with faster uploads and better screenshots to boot.

Dive into Galactic Civilizations IV and experience these new features for yourself.
