Now that marijuana is legal in many states across the United States, what type of misadventures can beloved stoners Harold and Kumar get themselves into now? We’ll soon find out in a new entry into the stoner comedy franchise.
Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Harold & Kumar 4 is currently in early development. Kal Penn and John Cho are expected to return with original Harold & Kumar writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg set to direct. They’ll pen the script with Josh Heald, while Mandate Pictures will produce the film.
“We’re fired up to bring Harold and Kumar back in a return to the unapologetically R-rated, smoke-filled chaos that started it all,” Hurwitz and Schlossberg said in a statement to THR. “It’s high time they puff and pass their wisdom onto a new generation. Just don’t tell their kids.”
The original film, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, dropped in 2004 and instantly became a fan favorite. It was followed by 2008’s Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay and 2011’s A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas. To date, the films have cumulatively grossed around $104 million worldwide.
