T.J. Hooker movie reboot in development at Netflix

August 9, 2025 by Gary Collinson

Netflix is developing a feature film reboot of T.J. Hooker, the classic 80s police procedural series which starred Star Trek legend William Shatner in the title role as a police sergeant and Vietnam War veteran who returns to uniformed duty to rid the streets of crime after the death of his partner.

As per Variety, Netflix has tapped Yes Man screenwriters Jarrad Paul and Andy Mogel to pen the script for the film, which is aiming “for a more meta and comic tone than the original series.”

T.J. Hooker originally premiered on ABC in 1982, running for four seasons before cancellation, although it was subsequently picked up by CBS for a final season, coming to an end in 1986. Alongside Shatner, the cast included Adrian Zmed, Richard Herd, James Darren and Heather Locklear.

The T.J. Hooker movie is being produced by Sophie Cassidy and Matt Crespy of 2.0 Entertainment, Adrian Askarieh of Prime Universe Films and Alex Westmore for Vali Vista Films. It’s said that the producers have been in talks with William Shatner, and the expectation is that he will be involved with the reboot in some capacity.
