The Simpsons are heading back to the big screen in 2027 for The Simpsons Movie 2

September 29, 2025 by Ricky Church

The Simpson family is heading back to the big screen. The Simpsons Movie 2 will be released just in time for the 20th anniversary of their first feature in 2027.

The Simpsons is the longest running TV series at 37 seasons with its latest season premiering just last night. The series follows Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson and the residents of Springfield in their crazy lives and adventures. It is one of the most popular and beloved animated series ever made, particularly for its early seasons which was nominated and won numerous awards. Classic favourites include ‘The Springfield Files’, ‘Marge vs. The Monorail’, ‘Homer’s Enemy’, ‘Cape Feare’ and ‘You Only Move Twice’.

A sequel has been teased ever since The Simpsons Movie was released in 2007, but has been put off due to the amount of work it took to make the film while still producing continuous seasons of The Simpsons. 20th Century Fox finally committed to the sequel by announcing it today on Instagram with a teaser poster and a release date of July 23, 2027.

The Simpsons was created by Matt Groening and features the voices of Dan Castellaneta as Homer, Julie Kavner as Marge, Nancy Cartwright as Bart, Yeardley Smith as Lisa with Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer as the voices of Moe, Mr. Burns, Chief Wiggum, Ned Flanders and many more. Presumably they will reprise their iconic roles again for the film as The Simpsons will run until at least Season 40.

What do you think of The Simpsons Movie 2? Are you excited for it or think it has been too long for this already long series? Let us know on our social platforms at @flickeringmyth…

The Simpsons Movie 2 will be released on July 23, 2027.
