Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 animated series unveils first look ahead of 2026 premiere

November 6, 2025 by Ricky Church

With the final season of Stranger Things beginning in just a few short weeks, Netflix has celebrated Stranger Things Day by unveiling the animated spin-off Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, which will further explore the franchise next year.

Netflix, Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer and showrunner Eric Robles released an announcement video teasing the series and showing some of its animation and concept art. The series will take place between the second and third seasons of Stranger Things, following the group investigating a new mystery involving the Upside Down as another creature finds its way into Hawkins. The logline for the series reads:

Welcome back to Hawkins in the stark winter of 1985, where the original characters must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town.

The voice cast features Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Ej (Elisha) Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Ben Plessala as Will and Brett Gipson as Hopper with Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo and Lou Diamond Phillips.

Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 will premiere on Netflix sometime in 2026. Eric Robles will serve as showrunner and an executive producer with the Duffer Brothers executive producing alongside Hilary Leavitt and Shawn Levy.

Meanwhile, the fifth and final season of Stranger Things has been split into three volumes with the first premiering on November 26th. Netflix has also taken the rare step from them to release the series finale in theatres on New Years Eve, timed to start the exact time it premieres on the streaming service.

As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.
