AMC developing a small screen Point Break series

December 16, 2025 by Matt Rodgers

Point Break is set to ride a smaller wave onto television screens with the news that AMC is developing a series based on Kathryn Bigelow’s iconic surfing actioner.

According to Deadline the “next life” for this world of breaks and bank robberies will be a scripted hour-long written by David Kalstein (Butterfly) set 35 years after the events of the original film and will focused on a dangerous heist crew with ties to the Ex-Presidents gang.

The original film was written by W. Peter Iliff (Prayer of the Rollerboys) and starred the late Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reeves, Lori Petty and Gary Busey in a bodacious crime-drama about a rookie FBI agent who infiltrates a gang of Southern California surfers who also rob banks.

Released in 1993, Point Break earned $83 million worldwide, made an action star out of Keanu Reeves, and has developed a passionate following over the course of the intervening years. A 2015 remake directed by Ericson Core and starring Edgar Ramirez, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, Delroy Lindo and Ray Winstone was a box-office wipe-out, taking just $130 million off a $100 million budget.
