No sooner had it been read its Last Rites, The Conjuring franchise has been brought back from the dead with the news that The Conjuring: First Communion will be released on Sept. 10, 2027.
Death, taxes, and the fact that Warner Bros. were never going to let The Conjuring franchise come to an end following the $494 million that 2026’s Last Rites delivered at the worldwide box-office. These are the certainties in life, and they have been confirmed with the news that a prequel to the billion-dollar grossing core Ed & Lorraine Warren films will be out next year.
The Conjuring: First Communion will be directed by Rodrigue Huart (vampire short Transylvanie), from a script written by Last Rites scribes Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg. There are no plot details or casting news at the time of writing, but you can assume Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema will be turning on their P.K.E. Meters in order to find younger actors to play Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga’s iconic paranormal investigators.
To date The Conjuring Universe, which includes the Annabelle and The Nun spin-off movies, has coined in over $2.5 billion worldwide.
