Amazon has announced it will adapt Rachel Smythe’s webcomic Lore Olympus into an adult animated series from Amazon MGM, Webtoon Productions and The Jim Henson Company.
Created in 2017, Lore Olympus is a modern retelling of the Greek myth of Persephone and Hades, in which the original tale tells how Hades kidnapped the demigod Persephone and took her to the Underworld, forcing her to marry him and be his queen. Lore Olympus frames the myth as a romance between the young Persephone and misunderstood Hades with the official synopsis reading:
In Lore Olympus, witness what the gods do…after dark. The friendships and the lies, the gossip and the wild parties, and of course, forbidden love. Because it turns out, the gods aren’t so different from us after all, especially when it comes to their problems. Stylish and immersive, this is one of mythology’s greatest stories — The Taking of Persephone — as it has never been told before.
The series will be developed by Julia Cooperman (Colony), who will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer. Also executive producing are David Madden and Sydney Bright for Webtoon Productions with Aron Levitz and Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford for The Jim Henson Company.

Since its debut on Webtoon, the comic has been published in nine volumes with the tenth coming out this summer. The whole story has been concluded with readers able to read it in full on Webtoon.
