God of War casts Chucky’s Callum Vinson as Atreus

February 9, 2026 by Ricky Church

Prime Video’s upcoming God of War adaptation has found its Atreus to complete its main father-son duo on their epic journey.

Callum Vinson (Chucky) will star alongside Ryan Hurst as Kratos’ young son Atreus. The boy is “the ten-year old son of Kratos, who grew up in a remote forest cabin, isolated from the rest of the world and raised almost entirely by his mother Faye. He is an accomplished archer, has an affinity for animals and is intensely curious about what lies beyond the confines of his forest home. After his mother’s death, Atreus is left with a cold, distant father who he barely knows and who knows little about him in return. Nonetheless, Atreus yearns for his father’s approval and is desperate to prove he is strong enough to survive in a harsh and dangerous world.”

The series is adaptating the rebooted God of War titles under Santa Monica Studio, which trades the original games’ setting of Ancient Greece for Scandinavia among the Norse gods. The first game follows Kratos and Atreus on a quest to spread the ashes of their wife and mother while being hunted by Odin and other Norse gods for an unknown purpose.

Staring alongside Hurst and Vinson is Max Parker (Boots) as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Severance) as Thor, Mandy Patinkin (Homeland) as Odin, Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies) as Sif, Alastair Duncan reprising his God of War voice role as Mimir, and Danny Woodburn (Seinfeld) and Jeff Gulka (Laid) as dwarf brothers Brok and Sindri.

Vinson featured in the Chucky TV series and Long Bright River. He will be seen next in the Friday The 13th prequel series Crystal Lake as a young Jason Voorhees.

God of War is created by Battlestar Galactica‘s Ronald D. Moore, who is serving as showrunner, writer and executive producer. The series has been greenlit for two seasons with production underway in Vancouver.

Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.
