The Fourth Doctor faces old enemies in new Doctor Who audio adventure

March 6, 2026 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish Productions has released Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor Adventures – The Ministry of Death, a brand-new, full-cast audio drama featuring the beloved Tom Baker as the Doctor and Sadie Miller as Sarah Jane Smith. This first of three new Fourth Doctor Adventures set to arrive this year, brings two tales that find the time travellers summoned back to Earth to investigate strange deaths, and aliens in a museum.

In this new box set, the Doctor and Sarah Jane have been requested to return to Earth, where they are reunited with their UNIT comrades, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart (Jon Culshaw) and Harry Sullivan (Christopher Naylor), for more adventures. The two new adventures in this box set are:

“The Ministry of Death” by Robert Valentine – In this four-part story, the Brigadier uses the Space-Time Telegraph to call the Doctor back to Earth to investigate the bizarre death of an electronics expert. Although the man’s death matches being struck by a bolt of lightning, it isn’t exactly strange, but being in his office when it happened is very peculiar. The Doctor and Sarah Jane set out to investigate, and soon discover a case of twisted science and revenge that is very close to home.

This adventure stars Carolyn Seymour as Diana Stravius, Carla Mendonça as Mildred Harbin/Miss Price, Richard James as Deverell/Walter Stravius, and Wayne Forester as Prendergast/The Postman.

In the two-parter, “The Inhuman Empire” by Phil Mulryne, Sarah Jane is contacted by an old friend who knows of her passion for strange occurrences, who asks her to investigate unusual activities at the National Museum. The Doctor tags along, and the pair soon discover that the strange happenings are down to very familiar aliens. Can the duo defeat the aliens before it’s too late?

The guest cast for this tale stars Jayne Ashbourne as Alison Carmichael, John Heffernan as Carson Baylis, and Nick Ellsworth as Sir William Kenyon.

Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor Adventures – The Ministry of Death is available to purchase from the Big Finish website for £19.99 for the download or £24.99 for the download and limited Collector’s edition. Multibuy bundles with upcoming releases are also available.
