Dark Shadows adult animated series in the works from Warner Bros.

June 27, 2026 by Gary Collinson

Coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the cult TV show’s premiere yesterday, Warner Bros. has announced that it is resurrecting Dark Shadows with an adult animated series from showrunner Lisa Holdsworth (Discovery of Witches).

Originally premiering on ABC back in June 1966 and running for 1,225 episodes across six seasons, Dark Shadows is a Gothic soap opera revolving around the wealthy and unusual Collins family of Collinsport, Maine – most famously Barnabas Collins, a vampire played by actor Jonathan Frid, and subsequently portrayed by Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s 2012 feature film adaptation.

Announcing the reboot during the Warner Bros. Animation panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, WBA also unveiled the following logline for the series: “Blending gothic, horror, and supernatural genres, this coming adaptation promises all the dark twists and romantic intrigue that defined the transformational series across its 1200-plus episode run.”
