Per THR the studios will co-finance the film, with Lionsgate developing it, overseeing production, and distributing it in North America, while Sony will handle international distribution of the highly anticipated project.
Destin Daniel Cretton will follow his duties on the all-conquering $2.5 billion grossing Spider-Man: Brand New Day by writing and directing the Naruto movie, which is based on Masashi Kishimoto’s phenomenally successful Manga.
Originally serialised in Japan’s Weekly Shonen Jump, before becoming a hugely popular Cartoon Network animated series, Naruto tells the story of a young ninja who possesses the sprit of nine-tailed demon fox and his wish to grow up to become the leader of his ninja village. The Manga has sold 250 million copies across 60 countries and has infiltrated all corners of popular culture, from Fortnite skins to Happy Meals.
Earlier this year Warfare‘s Charles Melton was linked with the role of Naruto‘s mentor Kakashi, and this latest update reiterates that he is in talks. The production will then focus its attention on finding an actor to play the iconic titular character.
