Gary Oldman to play Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour

According to Deadline, Gary Oldman is in talks to play British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, an epic drama from Working Title and director Joe Wright (Pan).

The project, which has been scripted by Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything), takes place in 1940 as Churchill becomes Prime Minister in the midst of World War II, with the Allies on the brink of defeat against the might of the Nazi war machine.

Oldman can currently be seen starring in Criminal, which is in cinemas now [read our review here], and has several projects on the horizon including the action thriller Hunter Killer, sci-fi drama The Space Between Us, and action comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard.
