Warner Bros. sets 2017 release dates for Stephen King’s It and CHiPs

April 23, 2016 by Justin Cook

The upcoming film adaptations of Stephen King’s beloved horror novel It and the 70s/80s NBC drama series CHiPs have been slated for 2017 release dates by Warner Bros. Entertainment.

First off, CHiPs, an action-comedy which follows the adventures of two California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers, will hit theaters on August 11, 2017. Currently, the only other project set for that release date is Sony’s The Emoji Movie, a movie that most likely will attract a much younger audience than the adult-aimed CHiPs.

Dax Shepard wrote, directs, produces and stars in the project, the last of which alongside Michael Peña, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ada Brody, Kristen Bell, Jane Kaczmarek and more.

On the other hand, the slightly troubled It is now set to be released on September 7, 2017. Previously, Cary Fukunaga (True Detective, Beasts of No Nation) was attached to direct but eventually departed due to creative differences with the studio. Will Poulter may be starring as Pennywise the Clown, considering how he was heavily rumoured for the role while Fukunaga was still directing, and it’s possible new director Andy Muscetti (Mama) will keep him on board.

As for It, it’s the only movie set for its September release date, but as the date inches closer and closer, another studio will certainly give it some competition.

Lastly, Warner Bros. also slated an untitled PG-13 comedy for December 22, 2017, which is only a week after Star Wars: Episode VIII arrives.
