Cinemax bringing Brian Michael Bendis’ Scarlet to the small screen

June 11, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Acclaimed comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis has revealed that Cinemax is bringing Scarlet Rue to the small screen, with the network snapping up the rights to the Marvel/Icon comic book series Scarlet from Bendis and co-creator Alex Maleev.

“I do a book called Scarlet which is soon to be announced also in our universe of television,” said Bendis at the ATX Festival in Austin, Texas. “[It’s] at the earliest stage but the team around it will be announced soon and are all on the same page.”

“Scarlet is a list of things you can’t get made,” he continued. “Here’s a female lead who’s killing cops because her world is broken. When it was sold it was sold to people who were actively looking for that, so that put us in a good place. So stay tuned.”

Scarlet was first published in 2010 and follows a rebellious young woman who ends up sparking a second American revolution. The series resumed last month with the release of issue #8.
