The aliens are back as Independence Day: Resurgence opens across the UK

June 23, 2016 by Gary Collinson

After twenty years of waiting, the aliens have finally returned, as 20th Century Fox unleashes Roland Emmerich’s sci-fi sequel Independence Day: Resurgence, the hotly-anticipated follow-up to the 1996 blockbuster.

To celebrate the release, Vue Entertainment has been conducting research into the British public’s thoughts on extraterrestrial life, with one in three respondents believing in the existence of aliens, and one in six people claiming to have seen a UFO for themselves. That peaks in London, where 51% of people believe that aliens have already landed on Earth. However, unlike the aliens in Independence Day, two thirds of us believe aliens would come in peace – which would surely spell good news for the world’s landmarks!

Be sure to check out Vue’s video about alien conspiracy theories from acclaimed sci-fi writer James Swallow. You never know – it may just help you survive an alien abduction.

20 years have passed since the original Independence Day battle between alien and man. Earth may have won, but the invaders haven’t completely vanquished. The aliens are back and more determined than in ever in Independence Day: Resurgence. Having spent the last two decades preparing for a larger scale attack, Earth is about to face its biggest challenge yet. Jeff Goldblum reprises his role as David Levinson and Liam Hemsworth is welcomed to the franchise as Jake.
