Scott Eastwood being eyed for key role in Pacific Rim 2

July 1, 2016 by Justin Cook

Originally published July 1, 2016. Updated November 1, 2022.

According to Deadline, actor Scott Eastwood may be joining the cast of yet another high-profile upcoming release, as Legendary Pictures is reportedly targeting him for the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 film Pacific Rim, Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.

While his character details are unknown, he will be playing a “key role” alongside Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega; Boyega will be playing the son of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost from the first film. Such cast members from Pacific Rim as Charlie Hunnam, Max Martini and Ron Perlman may return, but there has been no official word yet.

Eastwood, son of the legendary Clint Eastwood, is best known for his work in Texas Chainsaw 3D, Fury and The Longest Ride. While his resume is fairly small at the moment, it will soon be expanding considering that from now until the end of 2017, he’ll be popping up in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, Oliver Stone’s Snowden, Ben Affleck’s Live by Night, F. Gary Gray’s Fast 8 and more. The mix of Oscar contenders and blockbusters alike could make him a household name in no time.

The casting news comes less than a day after it was announced that Maelstrom would be arriving in theaters on February 23rd, 2018, which is over four-and-a-half years after the first in the series.

This time around, del Toro has handed over the directorial reigns to former Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight; he will, however, still stay on board as a writer and producer. Production on the movie is set to begin later this year.
