Andy Muschietti teases It with missing poster, producer compares movie to Stranger Things

August 15, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Last month we got our first look at Bill Skarsgard’s Pennywise from the upcoming big screen remake of Stephen King’s horror classic It [see here], and now director Andy Muschietti has shared an image of a missing poster featuring Richie Tozier, one of the members of the Loser’s Club, which seems to suggest that the film could be deviating from its source material…

Meanwhile, producer Dan Lin has been chatting about the film to Collider, during which he drew comparisons to Netlix’s Stranger Things:

“I think a great analogy is actually Stranger Things, and we’re seeing it on Netflix right now,” said Lin. “It’s very much an homage to ’80s movies, whether it’s classic Stephen King or even [Steven] Spielberg. Think about Stand by Me as far as the bonding amongst the kids. But there is a really scary element in Pennywise.”

“Each kid, like a Goonies or Stand By Me, has a very specific personality and they’re forming the loser’s club obviously,” he continued. “And now finally the evil force is coming into our movie. We’ve spent a few months getting the kids to bond and now they’re going to fight this evil, scary clown.”

It will tell the first half of Stephen King’s tale, and is set for release on September 8th 2017.
