Back in September of last year it was announced that development was underway on a small screen adaptation of Jack Ryan, with Amazon then snapping up the pilot and John Krasinski (The Office) signing on to play Tom Clancy’s CIA analyst.
Well, now comes word that the project is officially moving ahead, with Amazon placing a ten-episode straight-to-series order for the show, which is being spearheaded by Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Graham Roland (Fringe). Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes is producing alongside Skydance Media and Paramount TV.
The series is described as “a reinvention with a modern sensibility” and follows Krasinski’s Ryan, “an up-and-coming CIA analyst as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale.”
The Jack Ryan franchise has spawned five movies, with Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger), Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears) and Chris Pine (Jack Ryan) all portraying the character on the big screen.
