Last week we brought some potential casting news on The ExpendaBelles, with producer Avi Lerner claiming that Millennium Films is currently in negotiations with Meryl Streep (The River Wild), Cameron Diaz (Knight and Day) and Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil) about joining the cast of the all-female Expendables spin-off / cash-in, and now comes word about a possible director for the project by way of Unleash the Fanboy.
With Kathryn Bigelow (Near Dark, Point Break) presumably out of reach since her Oscar success with The Hurt Locker, it seems that Lerner has went to the next best thing in his search for a female director with action experience, with the site reporting that Lexi Alexander (Green Street, Punisher: War Zone) is under consideration for the gig. It seems the story stems from a tweet from Alexander, during which she posted the first page of the screenplay by Legally Blonde scribes Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith, but of course that doesn’t necessarily mean she has it in the bag just yet.
