Marvel files trademarks for Black Panther, Alpha Flight, New Warriors and others

June 5, 2014 by admin

Now, this may end up being a big piece of “non-news”, but if history has taught us anything it’s that when Marvel (or any other studio making a comic book movie) trademark a name, it means that a movie is heading our way. And with Comic-Con just around the corner, one would think that this may have some relevance for their big announcements which, presumably, will be about Phase Three.

So, earlier this week, Marvel filed trademark applications for the following titles under “downloadable electronic publications in the nature of comic books, comic magazines and stories in illustrated form.” Now, this could just be Marvel going through the motions and ensuring their properties belong to them, but there is always the chance this is movie related considering how some of them play into rumoured plans. With that in mind, the trademarks include:

  • Irredeemable Ant-Man
  • Journey Into Mystery
  • Strikeforce: Morituri
  • Rocket Racoon (their spelling mistake, not ours)
  • New Warriors
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Black Panther
  • Alpha Flight
  • Age of Ultron

We know that we have a Guardians of the Galaxy movie on the way and the rumour swirling round the net is that the director-less Ant-Man will be following the Irredeemable Ant-Man storyline. Plus, Black Panther is a movie that has been on the books at Marvel for some time now. And with the announcement of Scott Derrickson helming the Doctor Strange movie, perhaps we can expect word of the The King of Wakanda heading to the big screen coming very soon?

We also know that next year’s Avengers movie will be subtitled Age of Ultron and the idea of team ups is part of their television plans on Netflix. So could this be why they have filed Alpha Flight? Further speculation includes Journey Into Mystery being a part of Thor 3.
