Super Troopers 2 recruits Rob Lowe and Emmanuelle Chriqui

September 16, 2016 by Justin Cook

With production officially underway in Boston on the crowdfunded sequel to 2001’s cult comedy Super Troopers, it seems as though the film’s full cast is finally starting to be revealed. According to Deadline (source links here and here), Rob Lowe, who is fresh off of his Comedy Central Roast, and Emmanuelle Chriqui, whose Hulu drama Shut Eye is only a few months away from release, have signed on to star in the upcoming feature film.

Reportedly, Lowe will be playing a character named Guy Le Franc, who the outlet describes as a “former hockey player and current mayor” of a Canadian town that borders the troopers’ town of Spurbury, Vermont.

On the other hand, Chriqui is set to play “Genevieve Aubois, a French/Canadian cultural attaché focused on relations with the U.S.” On the actress, director Jay Chandrasekhar said, “Emmanuelle and I met years ago and have been trying to work together ever since. With Super Troopers 2, we found the perfect part and our worlds have finally aligned.”

By the descriptions of these two characters alone, it’s safe to assume that Super Troopers 2 will focus more on what lies across the border and how our favorite Vermont state troopers will deal with the various people who reside there.

While perhaps best known for his dramatic work, Lowe is no slouch when it comes to comedy either, as proven by just the past few years of his career alone. Lowe was a series regular on Parks and Recreation, The Grinder and You, Me and the Apocalypse and had smaller parts in a slew of other comedies as well.

Meanwhile, most know Chriqui from Entourage, both the TV series and movie, but she has quite an extensive comedy background even beyond that, appearing in You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Robot Chicken and, coincidentally, The Grinder.

Super Troopers 2 is once again being directed by Chandrasekhar, who returns on screen alongside fellow Broken Lizard members Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske. Marisa Couglan and Brian Cox are also confirmed as reprising their roles from the 2001 original.
