Lin-Manuel Miranda developing film and TV adaptation of The Kingkiller Chronicle

December 4, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Lionsgate has announced that Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is partnering up with Pat Rothfuss, author of The Kingkiller Chronicle, to adapt the fantasy book trilogy for film and TV, with an additional option of a stage production.

Deadline reports that Miranda will serve as producer, as well as composing the music and penning the songs; he will produce with Robert Lawrence (Clueless), with Rothfuss serving as executive producer and Lindsey Beer (Transformers: The Last Knight) set to pen the script for a feature film based upon the first book, The Name of the Wind, which will then be complemented by a TV drama expanding on the world.

“The best way to service Pat Rothfuss’ unique and ambitious view was to invent a new way of adapting it with Lionsgate’s film and television teams working side-by-side, which meant that only a multi-hyphenate talent like Lin-Manuel Miranda could do the job,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-presient Erik Feig. “Lin is an incomparable talent and a huge fan of the trilogy and, working closely with Pat, his creative oversight of the franchise will bring an incredible level of detail and continuity to all of the projects.”

Launching in 2007, The Kingkiller Chronicle follows the character of Kvothe, a renowned musician, scholar and adventurer; the second book The Wise Man’s Fear arrived in 2011, while the third and final title The Doors of Stone yet to be published.
