New Lucasfilm trademark filing may have revealed Star Wars: Episode VIII title

December 10, 2016 by Gary Collinson

With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opening in a few days and Star Wars: Episode VIII now just a year away from release, it’s only a matter of time until we start getting some news (and maybe even a teaser trailer?) for the second instalment of the Sequel Trilogy, and a trademark filing this week may potentially have revealed the title for Rian Johnson’s follow-up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

According to AVS Forum, Lucasfilm has filed a trademark in the European Union Intellectual Property Office for Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, which contains a lengthy list of goods and serves “and includes items from staplers to Christmas tree ornaments”, as well as toys, clothing and most interestingly, motion pictures.

So, could Star Wars: Forces of Destiny be the title for Star Wars: Episode VIII? Would Lucasfilm be careless enough to reveal it through a trademark filing? And how does it compare to the previous rumoured titles Star Wars: Tale of the Jedi Temple, Star Wars: The Order of the Dark Side, and Star Wars: Fall of the Resistance? Let us know in the comments below…
