Roland Emmerich to direct sci-fi thriller Dark Matter

December 18, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that director Roland Emmerich is in negotiations to direct Sony Pictures’ adaptation of the bestselling sci-fi thriller Dark Matter from author Blake Crouch (Wayward Pines).

Published earlier this year, Dark Matter “centers on a college physics professor in Chicago with a warm family life. The teacher is knocked out by a masked abductor and wakes up in a world he doesn’t know in which his wife is not his wife, his son was never born, and he’s a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable and impossible — his theory has become a fully-realized technology for inter-dimensional transfer.”

Emmerich is coming off this year’s Independence Day: Resurgence, which was planned as the second instalment of an Independence Day trilogy, although its mediocre box office performance looks to have put the breaks on that, for the time being at least.
