Bryan Fuller teases the return of Hannibal as “an irregular thing”

December 25, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Despite its cancellation by NBC last year, Hannibal fans haven’t given up hope of a revival for the acclaimed series, and it seems neither has the cast or creator Bryan Fuller.

Back in June, Fuller revealed that stars Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen are open to a return, and suggested that the rights to the series – and to Thomas Harris’ novel The Silence of the Lambs – would become available from August 2017. And now, speaking on the Shock Waves Podcast, Fuller has once again teased a potential return of the show as “an irregular thing”

“I think the film adaptation [of The Silence of the Lambs] is a perfect film, but there’s a lot of interesting nooks and crannies to explore in a television series,” said Fuller. “I hope we get to tell the story… I think, ideally for the cast, it would be as a mini-series, here and there. Let’s do 6 to 8 episodes of that, and 6 to 8 episodes over here. And do it as an irregular thing.”

Fuller does have a lot on his plate at the moment with American Gods and Amazing Stories, so much so that he was forced to exit CBS’ Star Trek: Discovery. Still, he does seem very keen on returning to the world of Hannibal, so let’s hope it becomes a reality…
