Benedict Cumberbatch starring in The Child in Time for the BBC

February 15, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Doctor Strange and Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch is set to produce and star in a television movie adaptation of The Child in Time for the BBC and Masterpiece.

Cumberbatch, whose star seems to increasingly be on the rise, is producing the adaptation of Ian McEwan’s novel which explores the themes involved when a marriage is affected by the loss of a child.

Cumberbatch’s SunnyMarch TV production company is putting together the venture in a joint effort between BBC One and Pinewood Television.

Along with producing duties, Cumberbatch will star in the 90 minute film, which will be written by Stephen Butchard and directed by Julian Farino.

Cumberbatch will play children’s author Stephen Lewis who has to cope with the passing of his daughter, Kate.

Reported in Variety, the Sherlock actor said about the project: “I read the novel years ago and it stayed with me — profound, beautiful, and very moving”. Going on to say, “Only Ian McEwan could write about loss with such telling honesty”.
