24: Legacy Season 1 Episode 6 Review – ‘5:00 PM – 6:00 PM’

March 10, 2017 by Ricky Church

Ricky Church reviews the sixth episode of 24: Legacy…

Corey Hawkins is still one of the best aspects of the series and really sold Carter’s own frustration with CTU throughout the episode. From standing up for the now deceased-Grimes to telling them off for getting his name leaked, there was a lot for Carter to be upset about. Hawkins sold those emotions well.

Amira’s storyline came to a somewhat surprising conclusion. I thought she might last a couple more episodes, if not the whole season, given how prominent a character she’s been and the fact Legacy toyed with a redemptive arc for her. Not so, however, as she went out with a literal bang and collapsed a bridge with at least 100 people with her.

However, while this was surprising, it was also frustrating as the emotional investment never felt wholly earned. We were just starting to see shades of doubt in her beliefs, but those still came out of the blue and we’re menat to feel for her complicated feelings and varying allegiances to her brother and father, but we never saw enough of either relationship to truly feel for it, instead being told rather than shown how much Amira’s father wasn’t there and how much she loved and feared her brother.

Things also got further frustrating with Nicole’s storyline as this episode made her decision to stay with Isaac last week and even worse one. 24: Legacy hasn’t been too shy of using the same tropes the original series was known for and it used one of its most famous ones as Khalid’s men found and kidnapped both Nicole and Isaac, giving Carter the choice to do what they demand or else they’ll kill his family. Nicole’s plotline is one of the more aggravating ones on the show, especially since we’ve seen how capable she can handle herself during an intense situation, so the utilization of this worn-out 24 plot device isn’t wanted or needed.

Overall, this was a fairly uneven episode of 24: Legacy. It had some good performances, Corey Hawkins in particular, but the payoffs to Amira’s story felt unearned and fell flat. As Legacy enters the second half of its inaugural season, hopefully it can bounce back to the quality of the first couple episodes, but I’m guessing Carter will again pull a Bauer and go rogue in order to save his family.

Rating: 5/10
