Finn Jones blames Donald Trump for Iron Fist’s bad reviews

March 14, 2017 by Gary Collinson

A few days ago, Iron Fist star Finn Jones spoke about the bad reviews for Netflix’s latest Marvel series, pulling out the old “we made it for the fans, not the critics” line, and now he’s shifted his focus, blaming Donald Trump for viewers’ inability to connect to Danny Rand.

“I think the world has changed a lot since we were filming that television show,” Jones told Radio Times. “I’m playing a white American billionaire superhero, at a time when the white American billionaire archetype is public enemy number one, especially in the US. We filmed the show way before Trump’s election, and I think it’s very interesting to see how that perception, now that Trump’s in power, how it makes it very difficult to root for someone coming from white privilege, when that archetype is public enemy number one.”

We’ll be able to judge Iron Fist for ourselves when the new series hits Netflix this Friday, March 17th.

Fifteen years after being presumed dead in a plane crash, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) mysteriously returns to New York City determined to reclaim his birthright and family company. However, when a long-destined enemy rises in New York, this living weapon is forced to choose between his family’s legacy and his duties as the Iron Fist.

Marvel’s Iron Fist sees Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) leading the cast as Danny Rand alongside Jessica Henwick (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) as Colleen Wing, David Wenham (The Lord of the Rings) as Harold Meachum, Jessica Stroup (90210) as Joy Meachum, Tom Pelphrey (Banshee) as Ward Meachum, Rosario Dawson (Daredevil) as Claire Temple, Carrie-Anne Moss (Jessica Jones) as Jeri Hogarth, Wai Ching Go (Daredevil) as Madame Gao and Lewis Tan (Mortal Kombat: Legacy) as Zhou Cheng.
