Damon Lindelof on what to expect from The Leftovers’ final season

April 5, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Damon Lindelof, the showrunner behind HBO drama The Leftovers, has spoken about what fans can expect from the final ever season of the show.

When you hear that the man behind Lost is going to be bringing a new drama to HBO about large swaths of the Earth’s population suddenly disappearing, you’re expecting it to go somewhere weird.

And this is exactly what happened when Damon Lindelof’s The Leftovers debuted back in 2014. Not only is the show one of the more bizarre series you ever likely to see, it goes very far in rectifying the mistakes that plagued Lost in its latter seasons.

The show, starring Justin Theroux and Liv Tyler, has found critical acclaim and a small but passionate audience. The series however is coming to an end this year after skipping 2016 altogether, leaving fans pretty eager to see how the whole thing wraps up.

Luckily for those among us just trying to make sense of it all, Lindelof recently sat down with Uproxx to chat about what we can expect when season three debuts later this month.

“He (Kevin) has seen this woman who died and is interacting with her, and he’s not sure if she is a figment of his imagination or some sort of demonic entity. So season three is not about Kevin trying to determine whether or not he’s crazy, it’s about Kevin struggling with the fact that everything you just described felt very real to him, and if it was real, what is he supposed to do about it”.

Part of the show’s intrigue, specifically during season two, was the audience trying to determine if Kevin was indeed going crazy, or if these bizarre events were actually happening, so it’s good to know that the final episodes will focus on Kevin coming to terms with the now obvious super natural and other worldly elements of the series.

The Leftover’s final season premiers on HBO on April 16th.
