The Great Beauty’s Toni Servillo to play Silvio Berlusconi for Paolo Sorrentino

April 13, 2017 by Gary Collinson

The Great Beauty star Toni Servillo is set to reunite with director Paolo Sorrentino on the filmmaker’s new project Loro, where he will take on the role of Italian media mogul and Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

According to Variety, the Italian-language film will explore Berlusconi and his inner circle, and Sorrentino is putting the finishing touches to the script while Indigo Film, the company behind all of Sorrentino’s previous movies, seeks to raise the necessary financing. This is apparently proving tricky, as both The Great Beauty and Youth were co-funded by Medusa, a company controlled by Berlusconi, which is not involved with this latest project.

Sorrentino recently helmed Sky and HBO’s The Young Pope starring Jude Law. He has written a second season, although it is yet to receive an official green light, freeing up the filmmaker for a return to the big screen.
