Chris Columbus to produce the Gremlins remake and Goonies sequel

July 10, 2014 by Gary Collinson

According to The Tracking Board, Chris Columbus is heading back to his roots, signing on to produce the planned Gremlins remake, as well as The Goonies sequel. Steven Spielberg is said to be producing The Goonies 2, and will also be involved with the new Gremlins movie in some capacity.

The site goes on to report that the Gremlins remake will adopt a plot very similar to the original, telling “the story of a boy who gets a strange creature for Christmas, only to, through his own negligence, unleash a horde of the little monsters on his town.” However, Slash Film is reporting that it will actually be a “sequel-style reboot” rather than a straight-up remake, set some 30 years after the events of the first movie.

Are you looking forward to the return of the Gremlins and the Goonies? Let us know your thoughts…
