As Marvel likes to frequently remind us, #ItsAllConnected when it comes to the vast Marvel Cinematic Universe, although much to the chagrin of many fans, we’re yet to see characters from TV outings such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or The Defenders making any impact on the big screen.
It has been reported previously that Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has been reluctant to incorporate the small screen side of the MCU into the movies, with Anthony Mackie even going so far as to say they’re “different universe” and that “it wouldn’t work at all”.
Well, Feige has now given fans a glimmer of hope that we will see a crossover at some point in time, telling i09 that: “The future’s a long time. So, the truth is, I don’t really know, but there are a lot of TV shows being made, and hopefully we’ll continue to make a lot of movies. At some point, there’s going to be a crossover. Crossover, repetition, or something.”
Given the sheer number of Marvel TV shows incoming (see The Defenders, Inhumans, Cloak & Dagger, Runaways, New Warriors), it seems inevitable that at one point or another the movie side of the MCU will want to make use of a character who’s already appeared on the small screen. However, it’s interesting that Feige mentions the word “repetition” – does that suggest a recasting/rebooting of a TV character could be an option if the movies want to make use of them? And what impact would that have on the established TV side of the universe?

Either way, going from Feige’s comments, there doesn’t appear to be any firm plans on the horizon, so it would seem this isn’t a bridge that Marvel will have to cross any time soon.
