Guy Ritchie would like to direct Suicide Squad 2

May 6, 2017 by Gary Collinson

With Guy Ritchie out and about on the promotional trail for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, the filmmaker has revealed that he’s keen to reunite with Warner Bros., expressing his interest in taking on the reins of the DC Extended Universe sequel Suicide Squad 2.

“I quite fancy doing Suicide Squad 2, because I thought I could do a good job with it,” said Ritchie in an interview with Variety. “I can’t do it because I’m doing something else. But I’ve felt I could really do something with that.”

Ritchie is about to go into production on Disney’s live-action Aladdin, and it would seem from his comments that this would cause a scheduling conflict with Suicide Squad 2, which is said to be one of several films that the studio is fast-tracking. However, given the frequent delays to DC projects, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Ritchie has completed Aladdin by the time cameras start rolling on the sequel…

Mel Gibson is thought to be the front-runner to succeed David Ayer in the director’s chair for Suicide Squad 2, and has had several meetings with Warner Bros., while Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) is also said to be in the mix.
