Kevin Feige says Marvel and Fox share joint custody of The Watchers

May 9, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2…

In a sequel filled with cameos and Easter eggs, none were much more exciting to die hard Marvel fans than when the Watchers briefly appeared along with Stan Lee in the middle of space.

It was certainly a fun moment for all who recognised the important and mysterious characters – an incredibly powerful race of extraterrestrial beings that observe the universe.

But many were under the impression that these characters would fall under the Fox umbrella, as they are more often associated with The Fantastic Four.

Luckily, Kevin Feige was on hand to explain just how these characters were able to make an appearance. Speaking to/Film, he was asked perhaps if a deal had been made with Fox.

“No. There’s joint custody with a number of things. There are certain characters that they have, but races that we share. If that makes sense?”

Makes sense to us, and perhaps means that we can expect to see more from these cosmic beings in the future as Marvel embrace other galactic themed storylines.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is out now and sees director James Gunn reuniting with returning cast members Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Glenn Close (Nova Prime), Sean Gunn (Kraglin) and Laura Haddock (Meredith Quill) alongside new additions Pom Klementieff (Oldboy) as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) as Ayesha, Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight) as Ego the Living Planet, Chris Sullivan (The Drop) as Taserface, Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) as Tullk and Sylvester Stallone (Creed) as Stakar.
