The Defenders costume designer offers major hint as to Sigourney Weaver’s villain role

May 10, 2017 by Robert Kojder

For those who may be unaware, all that is known about Sigourney Weaver’s role so far in Marvel’s The Defenders is that she is playing primary antagonist Alexandra, but thanks to a recent interview with International Business Times we now have more information on the villainous character.

Seemingly confirming a popular Internet theory, costume designer Stephanie Maslansky said: “I think that she’s clearly a baddie, and she’s the head of an ancient organization which is grounded in the comics. I hope that her wardrobe reflects that kind of ancientness. I hope I haven’t said too much. I hope Marvel doesn’t come after me.”

So, judging by those comments, it seems pretty clear that the ancient organization Maslansky is referring to is – as expected – The Hand, who were featured heavily in both Daredevil and Iron Fist.

“Marvel’s The Defenders” follows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.

The Defenders will hit Netflix on August 18th 2017, with Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Finn Jones (Iron Fist), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Simone Missick (Misty Knight), Scott Glenn (Stick), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker), Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing) and Elodie Yung (Elektra) appearing alongside Sigourney Weaver as the villain, Alexandra.
