Silicon Valley renewed for fifth season, but T.J. Miller won’t be returning

May 27, 2017 by Gary Collinson

HBO’s hit comedy Silicon Valley has been renewed for a fifth season, but the show will be losing one of its original stars when it returns next year, with THR reporting that T.J. Miller is departing the show and won’t be returning as Erlich Bachman in season five.

“The producers of Silicon Valley and T.J. Miller have mutually agreed that T.J. will not return for season 5,” reads the official statement from HBO. “In Erlich Bachman, T.J. has brought to life an unforgettable character, and while his presence on the show will be missed, we appreciate his contribution and look forward to future collaborations.”

Miller’ star has risen considerably in recent times; in addition to roles in Deadpool and Office Christmas Party, the actor and comedian has several big screen projects on the horizon, including The Emoji Movie, Ready Player One, Walden, Underwater and How to Train Your Dragon 3. He is also returning as Weasel for Deadpool 2, and has recently said that he’ll have an expanded role in the superhero sequel.

Although Miller is leaving Silicon Valley, cast members Thomas Middleditch, Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr, Josh Brener, Amanda Crew, Matt Ross, Jimmy O. Yang and Suzanne Cryer are all expected to return for season five.
