James Gunn on helping to oversee the cosmic Marvel Cinematic Universe

June 10, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Following the success of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige revealed that we’ll be seeing an increased emphasis on the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we head into Phase Four and beyond. Part of this will of course be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with James Gunn revealing that he’ll not only be writing and directing the next instalment, but will also be assisting Feige and company with this cosmic expansion.”

“We talk about it all the time,” Gunn told IGN when asked about his role within Marvel. “It’s already a part of what I’m doing with Marvel and the conversations that Kevin and I have every day. When we’re talking about Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and that story, that’s a story that will lead to other stories. It’s innate to the DNA that that’s the end of a trilogy but it’s the beginning of a whole other element of the Marvel Cosmic universe. That’s a part of what I’m doing now.”

Gunn has already revealed that we should expect to see Adam Warlock making his debut in Guardians Vol. 3, while he also stated that any fourth movie would likely feature an entirely new roster. So, by the sounds of it, it would seem that the third Guardians movie is going to be instrumental in sewing the cosmic seeds for the future of the MCU.
