The director of Spider-Man: Homecoming is excited for Sony’s Venom movie

June 27, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Spider-Man: Homecoming’s director is excited to see the Venom spin-off movie starring Tom Hardy, according to recent comments.

The world all of a sudden became pretty pumped for Sony’s Venom spin-off movie when Tom Hardy was announced to star as the classic Spidey villain.

And even though Venom is unlikely to connect with the MCU, and its unclear how this affects his relationship with Spider-Man, the director of the franchise’s latest reboot is himself excited to see the picture.

Jon Watts recently spoke to ScreenRant, explaining his thoughts on Venom and the Spider-Man spin-offs.

“I mean, I’m excited to see all of them. I know Ruben Fleischer, who’s doing Venom; we’ve known each other since [our] music video days. So like the idea of Tom Hardy being Venom is pretty cool, I’m really excited. I don’t know as much about the other movie yet, but yeah I’m so immersed in just the Spider-Man universe that I can see the potential in all of those movies.”

It will certainly be interesting to see how this all pans out, and of course the various repercussions if Venom should become wildly successful if the character is unable to appear alongside his greatest foe.

Production on Venom will get underway in September; details on the project are scarce, but it has been reported that Carnage will be the villain, and the film is set for release on October 5th 2018.
