Edgar Wright could make a sequel to Baby Driver

July 5, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Director of Baby Driver, Edgar Wright, has revealed that might end up making a sequel to the film.

Wright’s latest movie has gone down a treat with critics and fans alike, currently holding a score of 86 on metacritic [read our reviews here, here and here]. So it is no surprise to hear that talk of a sequel is already underway.

Speaking to Empire, Wright spilled the beans on these early discussions, saying that he would actually be open to making a sequel for this particular movie.

“The studio have asked me to think about writing a sequel and it is one of the ones that I might do a sequel to because I think there’s somewhere more to go with it in terms of the characters,” said the filmmaker. “Most sequels you have to contrive something so they go back to square one, unless there’s somewhere deeper for them to go. I think with Baby Driver there’s more that you can do in that realm, and I sort of have an idea that if you did another [film] you would subvert his involvement in the crime in a different way so he’s not the apprentice anymore.”

Sequels are of course all the craze in today’s movie landscape and any film that does remotely well is bound to have at least preliminary discussions. And while fans would surely like to see Wright tackle another original property, perhaps he can tempt them back for one more spin should he manage to crack Baby Driver 2.

A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams (Lily James), Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom. See it Only In Cinemas.

Baby Driver is out now and features a cast that includes Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, Lily James, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, and Eiza Gonzalez.
