Avengers: Infinity War directors would “absolutely love to do a Star Wars film”

July 20, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Having been handed the keys to the Avengers franchise following the critical and commercial success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, directors Anthony and Joe Russo have revealed to Variety that they are keen to swap one Disney mega-franchise for another.

“I sat in a theater when I was 11 years old and watched The Empire Strikes Back from 10 in the morning until 10 at night the day it came out,” said Joe Russo in an interview with Variety. “To say we’re obsessed with Star Wars is an understatement. We’d absolutely love to do a Star Wars film.”

Considering the brothers’ work with Marvel so far, and the fact that Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel are expected to do enormous business, it must surely be music to the ears of Disney – and to fans – that the Russos are keen to venture to the galaxy far, far away, and one would have to imagine they’ll be very near the top of Lucasfilm’s list for any future openings.

Would you like to see the Russos directing a Star Wars movie? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
