Classic arcade game Galaga heading to the small screen for animated series

July 23, 2017 by Gary Collinson

It looks like Galaga is set to become the latest video game to receive an animated adaptation, with Variety reporting that production company The Nuttery Entertainment has signed a deal with Bandai Namco Entertainment to develop an animated series entitled Galaga Chronicles, along with “other extensions” of the classic arcade game brand.

“We are incredibly honored to be able to work on such an amazing legacy property and help launch it into the animated space,” said Magnus Jansson of The Nuttery. “There is such a deep love for this game from fans around the world, and our team is excited make sure the next chapter in the Galaga saga is equally impressive and inspiring as its humble 8-bit beginnings.”

“While the re-imagining of the game into animation will be unique and, for the first time in Galaga’s history, story- and character-based, there is also a great respect for its history,” added Hirotaka Watanabe, an executive officer at Bandai Namco.

The Galaga animated series follows hot on the heels of the recent Castlevania animated show on Netflix, as well as the recently announced Assassin’s Creed anime.
